Looking for a fun and festive way to keep kids learning during the holidays? Christmas Mad Libs are the perfect mix of silly and smart!

While kids are giggling over goofy stories, they’re also learning valuable grammar and language skills like parts of speech, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and creative thinking. These printable Xmas Mad Libs are great for classrooms, holiday parties, or a fun family activity at home.

There are Christmas Mad Libs in this post for kids of all ages.  There are even two easy ones for preschool and kindergarten kids who may not be familiar with parts of speech yet.

For the Xmas Mad Libs for older kids, they’ll need to know the parts of speech, such as nouns, verbs, and adjectives.

Each PDF file has two pages.  The first page is where kids write their words, and the second page is the funny Christmas story where they’ll insert those words while they read it out loud.

I also have Halloween Mad Libs for kids.

How To Play The Christmas Mad Libs Game

1. Don’t read the story yet!
You’ll fill in the missing words on the first page before reading the story. The sillier the words, the funnier the story will be!

2. Fill in the blanks.
You’ll see a list of word types like:

  • Noun (a person, place, or thing)
  • Verb (an action word)
  • Adjective (a describing word)
  • Plural noun (more than one thing)
  • Name, color, number, etc.

Read the list on the first page and write down the first word that comes to mind—without peeking at the story!

3. Plug your words into the story.
Once all the blanks are filled, put each word into the matching numbered blank in the story.

4. Read your silly story out loud!
Now it’s time to laugh! Read the story out loud with your new words in place. It might be totally wacky—and that’s the fun of it!

Tips for more fun:

  • Play with friends and take turns being the “word chooser” and the “reader.”
  • Try making your own Mad Lib stories!
  • The crazier the words, the better the laughs!
