These Thanksgiving scavenger hunts are a fun activity for kids to do before the turkey has finished cooking or after their bellies are full and they need to burn off some energy.

How To Prepare the Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunts

For the Halloween scavenger hunts with riddles, print out the scavenger hunt clues and hide a clue in each specified place.

Give your child the first card, and then they can follow the clues leading them around until they reach the final one.

If you want to really surprise them, leave a little prize at each location and a bigger prize at the ending point.

For the preschool Thanksgiving scavenger hunt, I tried to keep the objects simple and things you would have around the house or yard.

These clues are written in riddles that your kids will have to figure out to know where the next clue is hidden.

The turkey’s roasting, the pies are sweet—

Pilgrims wore hats, so stiff and black.
Find your next clue where coats go back.
Answer: Coat closet or hook

Cranberries pop and mashed potatoes steam,
Find me where you’d cook that dream.

Pumpkin pie is such a treat,
Check beneath where you take your seat.

Outdoor Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt

This Thanksgiving treasure hunt is great if you want to get the kids outside for some fresh air and keep them out of the kitchen while you’re cooking.

Here are the riddles for the Outdoor Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt

Before the pie and pumpkin delight,
You knock on me morning or night.
I welcome guests with holiday cheer—
Your first clue’s hiding very near!
Answer: Front door or welcome mat

Leaves are swirling all around,
Where piles of crunchies cover the ground.
Answer: Leaf pile or yard with fallen leaves

Thanksgiving night gets crisp and cool,
Find your clue near nature’s fuel.
Answer: Firewood pile or firepit

I sit outside through fall’s bright days,
Round and orange in so many ways.
Answer: Pumpkin on porch or yard

The feast is set, now take your place—
I’ve got four legs and a cozy space.

Apples and nuts once grew on me,
