6 pieces of light pink gingham ribbon, cut to 21 inches
1.5 teaspoons chocolate chips
¼ cup white mini marshmallows
15 graham crackers
10.8 ounce bag Hershey’s kisses
18 pink marshmallows (I used Jet Puffed Color Changers – available at Walmart and Target)

How To Make The Pencil-Shaped First Day Of School Treat Bags
Add ¼ teaspoon (about 4 chocolate chips) to the piping bag. Shake the bag to get them to drop into the tip of the bag. This will look like the lead of the pencil.
Then, add 2 teaspoons of mini marshmallows to the piping bag above the chocolate chips. This will give the look of the wood part of the pencil that shows above the lead.
Break each graham cracker along the perforated lines to get 4 pieces. Add 9 or 10 pieces of graham cracker to the bag. (I placed in a stack of 4 crackers and then stuffed the rest around that stack.) This will serve as the main part of the pencil.
Next, add a handful of Hershey’s kisses on top of the graham crackers to look like the metal that the eraser fits into. I used 10 Hershey’s kisses per bag.
Then add 3 pink marshmallows to the top of the bag to look like the pencil eraser.
Use a mini rubber band to tie the bag shut. If you have a lot of excess bag at the top, you can trim off some to shorten it.
Finish your treat bags off with a light pink bow to match the marshmallow “pencil eraser”.
You can also add one of my back-to-school gift tags if you want to add an extra special touch.
Extra Tips For Making The Back To School Treat Bags
- Make these treat bags up only a day or two before the first day of school so the marshmallows stay soft and the graham crackers don’t get stale.
- If you have trouble breaking your graham crackers along the perforation, you can use a serrated knife and use a sawing motion along the perforations.
- Be sure you don’t get piping bags with writing on them like I did the first time around. You can see in my photos where I was adding the ingredients to the bag the yellow Wilton logo and writing on the piping bag.
