Gift baskets make great presents for any occasion and are really easy to put together.  The hardest part is finding clever gift basket theme ideas so you can create a unique and cute basket.  This list will be great if you want to diy a single gift basket, but it’s also perfect for anyone who wants to sell gift baskets in their Etsy or Amazon shops or on their own website.

If you’re wanting to sell your gift baskets, buy the baskets in bulk on Amazon to save a ton of money.  I like the idea of using a shelf storage basket to create a gift basket so they can use it in their home rather than a regular basket that will get thrown in a closet or something.

The first thing you need to do before you get started is choose a gift basket theme.

Homemade Coffee Lovers Gift Basket Ideas

I just happen to be a coffee lover so this one is especially appealing to me 🙂 .  Put in coffee or k cups.  I just got the Keurig Elite for my birthday and am completely in love with the fact that I can make delicious hot coffee and it also has an iced coffee setting so I can make iced coffees just like I’d get at a coffee shop.  This gift basket would be a great additional gift if you are giving a Keurig as your main gift and want to add a little something extra or as a stand alone for someone who already has the perfect coffee maker.  My family got me a k cup sample pack to go with my machine and they were so yummy and would be a great idea to add to a gift basket.  You could also put in some flavored syrups like the coffee shops use, some biscotti or pastries, chocolates or chocolate spoons, a couple of personalized mugs, and a coffee bar sign.  I love this example of this clever gift basket theme idea from Happy Go Lucky Blog.

Golf Theme Gift Basket Ideas

This one is great for any golfer, but would be especially perfect for Father’s Day for the golfing dads.  You could use a golf ball bucket as the basket.  Add some golf balls, a vitamin water, golf tees, sunscreen, and a snack like peanuts or chips.

Farmhouse Theme Gift Basket Ideas

So many people are decorating in farmhouse style now.  A farmhouse gift basket would make a great housewarming or wedding gift.  A small farmhouse signrustic placemats, a small succulent, personalized farmhouse kitchen towels, all natural hand soap, or a bottle of wine.

BBQ Or Camping Gift Basket Ideas

This clever gift basket theme can be used for quite a few occasions.  It would be great for Father’s Day, a housewarming, or a wedding.  It would be super cute to use a cooler or a fire pit as the basket on this one.  You could put in a personalized apron or his and hers aprons if it’s for a couple. a hammock, seasonings for meat, a grilling spatula, ingredients for s’mores, marshmallow roasting sticks, or a s’mores grill.  This is one of my favorite unique and clever gift basket theme ideas!

Gardening Gift Basket Ideas

I like this idea for Mother’s Day since it’s in the spring when people are beginning to garden.  A really cute idea would be to coil a garden hose in the shape of a basket .  Some items to include in a gardening gift basket would be gardening tools, gloves, seeds and an adorable personalized garden sign.

DIY Beach Themed Gift Basket

This idea is great for a wedding gift or for a family going on vacation.  You could use a beach bag or sand pail as the basket.  Items to include in a beach gift basket are personalized beach towels, flip flops, sunscreen, books, magazines, sunglasses, hats, snacks, earbuds, and if there are kids, some toys to play in the sand.

This one would be perfect as a graduation gift or a going away gift.  I love the idea of using a saucer chair as the gift basket.  Include itmes like snacks, coffee, a coffee maker, a first aid kit, fuzzy socks, ear plugs, and a personalized throw.  This is the perfect care package to make sure they have everything they need for their dorm room.

DIY Ice Cream Sundae Gift Basket Ideas

Who doesn’t love ice cream?!  Use an ice cream maker as the basket for this one!  I love this one because it looks like an old fashioned wood bucket. Fill it with hot fudge, caramel sauce, marshmallow fluff, sprinkles, candies, waffle cones, nuts and an ice cream scoop.  If you want, you can even add cute sundae bowls and spoons like these I found on Amazon.  It’s great for a family gift.

Movie Night Theme Gift Basket Idea

You could use a popcorn tub for this basket.  Fill it with reusable popcorn boxes, popcorn, a movie or Redbox movie code, sodas, movie theater style boxes of candy, and cotton candy.  Another great one for the whole family.

DIY Date Night Themed Gift Basket

This idea would work perfectly for so many occasions for a couple, newlyweds, and parents!  Items you can include in a date night gift basket are a restaurant gift card for dinner and drinks, movie theater gift card, an ice cream or other dessert gift card .  Did you know you can buy gift cards for pretty much anywhere on Amazon and have them delivered to your door in 2 days with your Prime membership? You can get a an Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial if you don’t already have it.  I just recently realized this and I’m so excited about it!  The last idea for this one is if you’re close with them and they have kids the thing that could make this an even more clever gift basket theme idea is, you could put in a coupon for free babysitting while they go on their date 🙂 .

How To Assemble A Gift Basket So The Items Are Secure

Once you know what gift basket theme you want to make, you’ll need to get everything in the basket and looking beautiful.

Here’s the best way to put together your gift basket so that everything stands up and stays secured in place.

Decide on a container to use for your basket.

Get a piece of styrofoam that fits inside your basket.

You can get styrofoam in craft stores or stores like WalMart.  I would suggest the white styrofoam rather than the green floral foam because it tends to fall apart.  You’ll want the foam to fit tightly inside the container.  Choose a height of foam that will allow your items to be seen in the basket but still sit down inside of it a little.

Get some paper shred to cover the foam.

Place the shred on top of the foam until it is hidden.

Place your items inside the basket to get a feel for how you want it all organized.

The way the items are displayed in a gift basket is important.  Move things around and rearrange until it looks beautiful to you.

Hot glue items that are glass, ceramic, or have throw away packaging to the styrofoam.

You’ll have to move the shred around a little to be sure you get it glued to the foam.  Hot glue comes off of many hard surfaces.  I would not suggest hot gluing wood, plastic or cloth items.

Place the other items in the gift basket around your glued items to secure them.

If you have some items that won’t stay secured and can’t be glued, try tying a ribbon around that item and a spot on the basket with the bow facing the front.  This will make it look cute while securing the item in the gift basket.

Put a big bow on your gift basket wherever you think it looks nice.

You can buy a premade bow or make your own with whatever ribbon you like to go with your gift basket theme.  Where you put the bow will depend on what container you use, but typically the bow looks best on the front or handle of the gift basket.

If you like, you can use a gift basket bag to wrap around the whole basket and put the bow at the top where you scrunch the bag together.

Add a gift tag to your basket

You can print out a tag on your printer, make one on your Cricut or Silhouette or use a store bought one.

Gift baskets are a great present for anyone for any occasion

I love gift baskets because you can give them for so many different holidays and occasions.  They are really awesome for bridal showers, weddings, housewarming gifts, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.  They work great for couples and families rather than having to buy individual gifts for the holidays.

These are just a few ideas.  You can come up with a gift basket idea for any theme you can think of.  Just think about any items that are associated with that topic or search Amazon for items associated with a hobby or interest.

DIY Candy Bouquets are also a great gift idea in place of a gift basket.  Check out my tutorial to make a super cute one!
