How I Made A Sale My First Month On Etsy!

I have been wanting to open an Etsy shop for about a year and a half but something just kept me from doing it…fear of failure I think.  I decided in September 2017 to put a few things on Etsy.

To be honest, I didn’t have much hope of really selling anything but I figured it was worth a try at only 20 cents a listing.  I started my store with only 7 listings and made my first sale while I only had that amount of listings in my shop.

My photos were horrendous!  I’ve improved on my photography, but it still needs work.  It’s a work in progress.  I’ll share below how I made a sale my first month on Etsy and what worked for me.

I did do quite a bit of research on what other sellers were using as tags and titles for similar items on Etsy.  I think this is what helped me make my first sale shortly after opening my shop.

I’m not sharing this information to brag or boast, but to inspire others who want to try selling on Etsy to give it a try.  I think the key to how I made a sale my first month on Etsy was the effort that I put into my listing titles and tags.

The other thing that helped is that my niche is pretty small and not oversaturated on Etsy.  It means less views for my shop but I have a much easier time getting on page 1 or 2 of search results.

If you have an Etsy shop, you know it can be super frustrating sometimes, wondering why no one is buying your stuff, why you can’t get found in search results and why other people are selling and you aren’t.  And when you hear that cha-ching on your phone, it always brings a smile to your face.

My first sale wasn’t huge in the way of the amount of money, but it was huge in the way of giving me inspiration to keep going.  I plan to share my Etsy selling story each month and include my income report for the month.  I’ll also tell you what I’ve done to try to improve my store and boost sales.

So here’s how my shop did for September 2017:

1 Etsy sale $32.15

My goals for next month:

  • Get at least 2 sales.
  • Add more items to my shop.
  • Make more than I did this month
